The INSIDE GeoMedia web site presents materials intended to expand on the information presented in INSIDE GeoMedia, to present new text material, and to provide you with the data necessary to complete the workflows in each chapter. The site contains:
Text Modules
These modules supplement and expand on issues introduced in INSIDE GeoMedia, providing detailed discussion of material that could not easily be incorporated into an introductory level book. Modules requiring workflow material have a link to that material beside the link to the module.
Workflow Material
Warehouses
Warehouses are the Access databases needed to complete the workflows presented in INSIDE GeoMedia.
Data Files
Several workflows use data other than Access warehouses.
GeoWorkspaces
GeoWorkspaces are provided for workflows that require some type of setup. Some workflows require that you download a workspace file along with data warehouses.
Downloading
Workflow material can be downloaded in the following ways:
All of the data is zipped. If you do not have WinZip, BKZip98, or PKZip installed on your system, download the software or see your system administrator.
File Locations
Default file locations are assumed to use the following paths.
- C:\GeoWorkspaces
- C:\Program Files\GeoMedia\Templates\GeoWorkspaces
- C:\Warehouses
- C:\Program Files\GeoMedia\Templates\Warehouses
If these are not the locations where your directories reside, you will have to modify any delivered workspaces to point to the correct path for your configuration. This procedure is described in Chapter 3 and here.
Additional Workflow Information
The data warehouses available here are stored in Access95. File naming conventions are as follows:
- GeoWorkspaces.gws
- GeoWorkspace templates.gwt
- Warehouses.mdb
- Warehouse templates.mdt
If a named GeoWorkspace is not referenced in a workflow, simply open a new one. In exercises using the USSampleData.mdb warehouse, use the copy delivered with your GeoMedia software. Saving workspaces at the end of workflows is optional.
In a series of workflows that build on one another, specifically those in Chapters 10 and 12, you are provided with workspaces that pick up where the previous workflow left off. You can optionally save and reuse your own workspaces. However, results may vary.
As you progress through the workflows you will find that you already have all the warehouses required for any given exercise. There is no need to download the data a second time, as long as you have not made gross changes to the data in your warehouses. If you have made changes (say you accidentally deleted a featured class, changed a table, or did something else fairly catastrophic), simply return to the individual warehouse's download directory and get a new copy of the warehouse.
