Chapter 6 - Typography in the View

Types of Type

Keeping track what fonts are installed on your computer can be very confusing. If you are depending on a lot of  typography to enhance your maps, make sure to check out Adobe's Type Manager Deluxe, and you will be on your way to better font management.

AVALabel

If you often have to label many map features in the View, consider using AVALabel from Map Logic. This low cost ArcView extension greatly speeds up the labeling process.

MaPublisher

For some complex cartographic projects that will be professionally published, its good to go beyond the tools offerred by ArcView. MaPublisher from Avenza is an extension to Adobe Illustrator or MacroMedia Freehand that utilizes ArcView shapefiles as base maps in those graphic design programs.

Labeling map features can be a difficult and tiresome task, but there are several ways of speeding up the process.
